World War II vet recalls life in the desolate land of Alaska

From June 1942 through May 1943 during World War II, Japanese forces held control of the island of Attu in the Aleutian island chain of Alaska. Attu's location was strategic because it provided control of sea lanes across the northern Pacific Ocean.
